5 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Nyungwe Primates Safari
This 5-day trip to Volcanoes and Nyungwe National Parks in Rwanda will enable you trek the two human’s closest friends, mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. Below is a customized itinerary of this 5-day primate safari in Rwanda.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Following your arrival at Kigali International Airport, our company representative will be waiting at the airport to give you a warm welcome. After clearing all the trip fees to the company representative, your driver-guide will transfer you safely to Volcanoes National Park. You will have a stopover along the way to have lunch and then continue. Reaching in the Park, you will check in and wait for the night meal at your lodge’s restaurant and a rest tonight in your room.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the Park headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing about gorilla trekking experience from the knowledgeable rangers. Go with much drinking water, snacks, and packed lunch (packed in your back packer). After the briefings you will be a given a specific gorilla family to trek and all treks will be led by a ranger who has a savvy on where the gorillas might have spent their previous night.
The trekking will last for 1 to 6 hours and if you meet the gorillas in their natural habitats, you will spend one strict hour with the gorillas, attaining life lasting memories. You will take as many photos of gorillas as you want in that one special hour with these close relatives of man. If found the gorillas quicker, you can also visit the Dian Fossey Tomb in the Park.
After the special time with the gorillas, you will drive back to your lodge to relax after the long trek. You will have dinner and go to your room afterwards – for the overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe (a stopover at Lake Kivu)
After an early morning breakfast at your lodge, you will set off to Nyungwe forest National Park to track the common chimpanzees. Before driving to Nyungwe, you will first have an en route visit of Lake Kivu to enjoy that beautiful morning breeze at the shores [it is an hour drive to Rubavu]. After enjoying the morning breeze and the beautiful reflection of the sun on Lake Kivu, you will get back on the road to be transferred to Nyungwe – about 4-5 hours’ drive, with lunch en route.
Arriving at the lodge, in the evening, you will check in, relax at the lodge with stunning views as you wait for dinner and the overnight.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking
Have a morning breakfast and then go for briefing about chimpanzee tracking at the Park headquarters [with packed lunch, enough drinking water and snacks]. After which you will be led by a park ranger in the forest to track these beautiful apes, which is a 1 to 6 hours’ trek.
On meeting the chimpanzees, you will view them in a space of strictly one hour taking photos, videos and selfies. After the memorable moment with the chimpanzees, you will return back to your lodge to gaze around at the serene surrounding as you wait for dinner and overnight in your room.
Day 5: Canopy Walk and Return to Kigali
You will wake up with a morning breakfast and then head for a walking trail that will take you the canopy walk-a swing bridge. From here, you will have a bird’s eye view of the surrounding; spotting animals moving below you. Still on the canopy walk you will spot many birds, butterflies, and many other primate species [the Park has 13 primate species]. After the canopy walk, you will drive back to Kigali [en route lunch].
